2026-10-19
Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) opened in 1990 on the campus of Sultan Qaboos University in Al Khoudh. It is Oman's main teaching hospital, training the country's doctors and nurses while treating patients referred from across the country.
University Medical City
A royal decree in 2024 created the University Medical City, which brings together SQUH, the Oman National Centre for Haematology and Marrow Transplantation and the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre under one body.
Specialities
SQUH offers most medical and surgical specialities, with strong departments in genetics, child health, neurology and laboratory medicine, and an active research programme.
Access
Most patients come with a referral. Emergency care is provided. Expats with insurance usually use private hospitals for routine needs but can be referred to SQUH for specialist care.

Location
Al Khoudh is in the west of Muscat, near Seeb and the airport and close to Al Mouj and Muscat Hills. It is easy to reach from the Muscat Expressway.
Good to know
Departments, opening hours and referral rules change. Call the hospital or check the Ministry of Health before you go. In an emergency in Oman, call 9999.
