Oman visas explained: every visa type, fee and rule in one guide (2026)
Visa-free entry, tourist visas, family, work, investor and the new free 14-day visa: who needs what to enter and live in Oman, how much it costs and how to apply.
2026-10-19
Oman is easy to visit and, for property owners and investors, increasingly easy to live in. But the visa system has many categories, and the right one depends on your nationality and why you are coming. This guide covers them all, with the fees set by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
Visa-free entry for 14 days
Citizens of a long list of countries can enter Oman without a visa for up to 14 days. The list, published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, includes the EU and most of Europe, the UK, Turkey, Russia, Iran and many others. Some nationalities, such as India, qualify only if they also hold a valid visa or residence from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, a Schengen state or Japan.
The conditions are strict: a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed return ticket, a hotel booking, health insurance and enough funds. The 14 days cannot be extended or converted into residence, so if you plan to stay longer, get a visa instead. GCC citizens enter freely with their ID cards.

Tourist and visit visas
Applied for online through the ROP eVisa portal (evisa.rop.gov.om) or through a licensed tour operator or hotel:
- Free 14-day tourist visa (Decision 109/2026), which can be converted to another tourist category before it expires.
- 10-day tourist visa, OMR 5, through licensed tourism companies.
- 30-day tourist visa, OMR 20, extendable once for the same period.
- One-year multiple-entry visit visa, OMR 50, with stays of up to one month per visit. Very useful for property owners before their residence is issued.
- Express visa, OMR 30, three weeks, single entry.
- Visit visa for relatives and friends, OMR 20, up to three months.
- GCC residents' visa, OMR 5, for certain professions resident in Gulf countries.
Residence: owners, investors and families
- Owner residence permit (Decision 87/2026): for foreign owners of residential property, no sponsor needed, covers first-degree family, valid 6 to 12 months and renewable while you own.
- Investor residency: 5 years for OMR 250,000 or 10 years for OMR 500,000 of qualifying investment, with visa fees of OMR 300 and OMR 500.
- Family visa: OMR 30, valid two years, multiple entry, for the family of a resident who meets the salary threshold.
- Cultural visa (Decision 156/2025): OMR 50 per year, issued for one, five or ten years to people in culture, arts and research.
Work visa
A work visa is sponsored by your employer, costs OMR 20 and is valid for two years. Before it is issued the employer obtains a work permit from the Ministry of Labour, whose fee depends on the profession and the company's Omanisation level. You will do a medical test and fingerprinting after arrival, and your employer must renew on time: late renewal is fined OMR 50 per month. More than 200 professions are reserved for Omanis.
How to apply
- Online: evisa.rop.gov.om for tourist, visit and many family visas. You create an account, upload passport and photo, pay by card and receive the visa by email.
- Through a sponsor: employers, hotels and tour operators can apply on your behalf.
- Residence: owner and investor residence are processed by the ROP after the ministry or developer certifies your ownership or investment.

Practical tips
- Check your passport's validity first; six months is a firm rule.
- Do not overstay. Fines are charged for every day beyond your permitted stay, and repeated overstays can lead to a ban.
- Keep your hotel booking and return ticket on your phone; officers sometimes ask for them on visa-free entry.
- Rules change; confirm the current fee on the ROP portal before you pay anything to an agent.
