Oman's largest tertiary hospital in Bausher: its specialities, who can be treated there, how referrals work and practical tips for patients and visitors.
2026-10-19
The Royal Hospital in Bausher opened in 1987 and is the main national referral hospital of the Ministry of Health. Patients from all over Oman are referred here for complex treatment that regional hospitals cannot provide.
Specialities
The hospital is known for its cardiac centre, oncology and haematology services, kidney care and transplants, women's and children's health, neonatal intensive care and a wide range of surgical specialities. It also has a large teaching role for doctors in training.
How to be treated
The Royal Hospital is a referral hospital. Most patients arrive with a referral from a health centre, a regional hospital or another specialist. Expatriates may be accepted for some services for a fee, but most use private hospitals for routine care. Emergency cases are stabilised and treated as needed.
Getting there
The hospital is on the Ghubrah–Bausher side of Muscat, close to Sultan Qaboos Street and a few minutes from the Grand Mosque. There is a large car park, and taxis and ride-hailing apps serve the site.

Tips for visitors
- Bring your ID, residence card and any previous medical records.
- Visiting hours are limited and wards may restrict the number of visitors.
- Modest dress is expected.
