Tiwi Beach and the coast near Wadi Shab
Tiwi's white beaches and the mouths of Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi: how to combine a beach day with Oman's most famous wadi.
2026-10-19
Tiwi is a fishing village on the coast between Quriyat and Sur, at the mouths of two famous valleys: Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi. Its small white beaches are perfect for a swim after a hike.
What to do
- Hike up Wadi Shab to its turquoise pools and the cave with a waterfall.
- Drive up Wadi Tiwi past palm gardens and mountain villages.
- Relax on Tiwi's beaches.

Getting there
Tiwi is just off the coastal highway, about two hours from Muscat. Wadi Shab has a car park and a short boat crossing at its mouth.
Tips
Start early to avoid the heat. Wear shoes that can get wet and bring modest clothes for the villages.

Beach safety and etiquette
Swim only where it is safe: there are few lifeguards, and currents can be strong, especially during the summer monsoon (June to September) when red flags close many beaches. Dress modestly away from hotel beaches, take your rubbish home and never drive on turtle nesting beaches.
Living by the sea
Many of Oman's freehold communities sit on the coast. R2LUX sells beachfront and sea-view homes where foreigners can own; three current listings are below.
