Salalah Airport: flights to Dhofar and the khareef
Oman's second airport: terminal, domestic and international flights, khareef season traffic and getting into Salalah.
2026-10-19
Salalah Airport (SLL) is Oman's second-busiest airport and the gateway to Dhofar. A new terminal opened in 2015, and in 2025 the airport handled about 1.7 million passengers, with domestic traffic to Muscat growing strongly.
Flights
- Domestic: frequent Oman Air and SalamAir flights to Muscat, about an hour and a half.
- International: routes to Gulf cities and seasonal flights from further afield, especially in the khareef season.
The khareef effect
From late June to September the monsoon turns Dhofar green and brings hundreds of thousands of visitors from Oman and the Gulf. Flights fill early and fares rise, so book well ahead if you plan to visit during the khareef.

Getting to the city
The airport is on the edge of Salalah, about 10 minutes from the city centre and 20 to 30 minutes from Hawana Salalah and the eastern beaches. Taxis and car hire are available; renting a car is the best way to explore the mountains and coast.
Tips
- Mountain roads can be foggy in the khareef; drive carefully if you land in the evening.
- Outside the khareef, Salalah is a quieter winter destination with warm beaches.
