Salalah's neighbourhoods: where to live in Dhofar's capital
From Al Haffa's old town and souq to Al Saada, Al Dahariz, Awqad and the resort community of Hawana Salalah.
2026-10-19
Salalah is spread along a coastal plain between the sea and the Dhofar mountains, with plantations of coconut and banana between its districts. Here is how its main neighbourhoods compare.
Al Haffa
The historic heart of the city by the sea, with Al Hosn Palace, the Al Haffa souq for frankincense and perfume, the beach and the Al Baleed archaeological park. Older homes, plantations and a traditional character.
Al Dahariz
East of the centre along the coast, Al Dahariz has residential streets close to the beach and plantations. It is a pleasant, local area with easy access to the city.
Al Saada
A large, mostly residential district north of the centre, with villas, schools, shops and some of the city's newer housing. Popular with families.
Awqad
West of the centre, near the port road and the Salalah Free Zone, Awqad has apartments and villas popular with people working at the port and in the free zone.

New Salalah and the centre
The commercial centre around the main streets and New Salalah has offices, shopping, restaurants, hotels and apartments.
Hawana Salalah
East of the city in the wilayat of Taqah, Hawana Salalah is an Integrated Tourism Complex with beach hotels, a marina and homes, and the main place in Dhofar where foreigners can buy.
Can foreigners buy?
Only in designated tourism complexes such as Hawana Salalah. Elsewhere, foreigners rent.
