2026-10-19
Sultan Qaboos Hospital is the main referral hospital for the Dhofar Governorate. A new hospital with 700 beds, built on a 100,000 square metre site, was more than 90% complete in mid-2026, with operations expected to start in the last quarter of 2026.
Services in the new hospital
- Emergency care and medical imaging
- Chemotherapy and dialysis
- Burns treatment and rehabilitation
- Intensive care for adults, children and newborns
- Training facilities for medical staff
Why it matters
Dhofar's population and visitor numbers grow strongly during the khareef season. The new hospital is expected to reduce referrals to Muscat for complex care.

Access
As a government hospital, it treats emergencies and referred patients. Expats usually use private clinics in Salalah for routine care.
Good to know
